Haven’t we heard before that when we do something wrong, God punishes us and ultimately will kill us in the end?
How does that make you feel about God? Doesn’t it make you feel just a little bit afraid of Him? I know that is how it sure made me feel.
At least, that is, until I learnt more about the wonderful character of God!
The Bible tells us that because God is love He cannot hurt us or kill us.
“But,” you might ask, “won’t He kill the wicked in the end?”
Proverbs 12:28 (NASB)
In the way of righteousness is life, and in its pathway there is no death.
This text tells us that following God’s way there can be no death because God’s way is the way of life.
Isaiah 59:1-2 (NASB)
1 Behold, the LORD’S hand is not so short that it cannot save; nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear.
2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.
Iniquities and sin separate us from God.
What will be the result of this separation?
Look carefully at some simple equations:
“For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.”(Ps 36:9)
” Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”(John 14:6)
Separation from God=Separation from Life
Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?” Ezekiel 33:11
Separation from Life= DEATH
O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake You will be put to shame. Those who turn away on earth will be written down, because they have forsaken the fountain of living water, even the LORD. Jeremiah 17:13
“For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, to hew for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13
When we choose sin over choosing God, we are in fact telling God “This is what I have chosen and it is not You. Go away!”
When we do this by not giving up our sins what more can a loving God do other than to respect our wishes and leave?
Job 22:17 (NASB)
They said to God, ‘Depart from us!’ And what can the Almighty do to them?
WE have a choice. WE can either choose God and by so doing choose life or tell Him to leave, which is choosing death.
Which one will you choose, remembering that it is our choice that determines if we live or die?
