When we picture a happy marriage we usually see a person the fills our wildest dreams and seldom if ever do we picture them with faults. They meet every expectation and are joy to be around all day. They know just the right words, just what to say at the right time. They are that shoulder that we need to lean on. Know anyone like that?

The bible says ” And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”(John 17:3) Knowing God not only includes all the above. It also includes eternal life as well! What a God!

But think about it, would you spend the rest of your life with a person you only met 5 minutes ago? Would you?

God has given all of His children the time to know Him to really know Him. The bible also says “We love him, because he first loved us.”(1 John 4:19) Only by love is love awakened, to know God is to love Him.

But what are we taught about God from our parents, from our family, from society, from the media? We learn that God is cruel always wanting to even the score, just like a child who says “hit me and I will hit you back. Don’t get mad get even. If you cross me you are going to pay.”

With all these being reinforced from childhood it is no wonder many people believe that God was responsible for the flood, sending fire on Sodom and Gomorah and the many other cruel instances depicted in the bible. But would you like to spend eternity with a God like that? Thank God that is not His character.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”(Isa 55:8-9)

“For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.”(Jam 1:20)

God is lovely. He is even more wonderful than any picture we can paint in our minds of the most magnificent person. Words cannot truly express who He is, but we are called to behold Him, enjoy Him, love Him.
