God Does Not Give Us More Than We Can Handle

This is a phrase that is often repeated when people are going through difficult times thinking that this will help the people feel better. But truth is, it doesn’t. It actually makes you feel so much worse because you wonder what God could be thinking letting you suffer so much because He thinks you can bear it???!!!

Indeed, if this statement were true it would mean that the God that we serve is not the loving, kind, wonderful God that He claims to be. I mean after all how could He be if He can say, ” Ruth is strong. Let me let all 4 of her children die cause I know she can bare it.”

Well, I’ll say now, if I served a God like this, I would have to let Him know that I am weak, REAL weak!

But God is not like what is portrayed above! Oh no! He does not send us more than we can handle. Indeed, He does not send us any bad thing. HE only sends us good gifts.

James 1:16-17 New American Standard Bible

16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

And why does He only send us good gifts? Because He not only loves us HE IS LOVE!!

And love does not hurt and so God does not hurt because He is love.

Romans 13:10

Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

So God is not going to send me something bad because He knows I can bare it. If He did than it would mean that He would be the one responsible for my suffering. Then, how would He be any different than the devil?

But God is in no way like the devil. He does not want or cause any suffering. Sin does.

So the next time some one is going through something bad, remember that God didn’t cause it. But He is there with the person, bringing them comfort, peace, hope and loving them in their difficult times.
