Genesis 43:8-9 NASB
Judah said to his father Israel, “Send the lad with me and we will arise and go, that we may live and not die, we as well as you and our little ones.
I myself will be surety for him; you may hold me responsible for him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame before you forever.
A surety is someone who stands in and stands up for someone when difficulty arises. This person not only vouches for the other person, but also stands in the person’s place.
Christ is our surety.
Like the story in Genesis of Judah standing as a surety for Benjamin and telling the prime minister to take him instead, so Chirst stood in our place and said take my life instead.
When man sinned, The Son of God said that He would come and take our place. Even before man sinned He always planned to be our surety.
Revelation 13:8 NASB
All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain.
1 Peter 1:18-20 NASB
knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
Christ laid down His life for humanity.
He did not lay it down when man was perfect.
He did not give his life for us when we were in a loving relationship with Him.
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Christ became our surety when we hated Him. He became our surety when we were His enemies. He became our surety even though He knew most our us would not love Him back.
This is love- Infinite love.
God is love.
This is the God we serve.
Today we can come to Him knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that He has given all for us and to us, and that all is Himself.
