Don’t forget to join us Monday to Friday until 23 December for this study. If you have missed any of the posts click here to be taking to the study page here.

In this study we will be looking at that first advent of Jesus. But as we look at this topic, one of the questions that comes to mind is ‘Why did Jesus have to come in the first place?’

In order to answer this question we must go back to as far as we can and answer some other questions.

Why did Jesus have to come to earth? To save man

What did man need saving from? Sin

What is this sin that man needed saving from?

And so this brings us to our first questions- what is sin?

1 John 3:4 KJV
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law

1 John 3:4 ESV
Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.

1 John 3:4 NASB
Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.

The bible tells us that sin is transgressing God’s law. Sin is lawlessness. When we see lawlessness here on earth, we see chaos, confusion and destruction. Likewise, when God’s law was broken, the result was the same- disruption of the perfect order and harmony in the universe, resulting in chaos, confusion and death.
