When we think of laws we think of a set of rules that govern a society. When we keep these laws we don’t see them as something bad. When we are breaking these laws we see them as something bad.

But are all laws bad? No.
Most laws are not bad. They are simply a set of rules that are put in place to help keep things functioning or working properly.

There are laws of gravity, there are laws of motion, there are various other laws that we see in the natural world. In the same way, there is one great law that governs the functioning of the universe. That law is the law of God.

The Bible tells us that God’s law is not simply a set of rules that must be kept. Oh no! God’s law is life, which is in contrast to the law of sin.

Romans 8:2
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

God’s law is also righteous. What is righteousness? It is doing right.

Romans 8:4
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

God’s law is the basis of life and right in the universe. God’s law shows us who He is, since He is life and righteousness.
