We have been following the passage of Hurricane Irma through the Caribbean. This is such a massive, powerful hurricane that no one in this generation has seen the likes of before.
It has decimated the island of Barbuda and left if “uninhabitable” with around 95% of the homes being damaged.
My heart hurts for those who have suffered the devastion that this hurricane has caused.
As I look at the sheer power of this hurricane, with wind gusts as high as 225mph, I can see nothing but the destructive force of raw power.
Raw power is destructive.
Look at when volcanoes erupt or tsunamis make landfall; when tornados sweep through neighbourhoods or wild fires ravage cities- power that is destructive.
Power without wisdom or love is destructive.
This is why there always had to be an all-wise God of love. If there wasn’t, and only power existed, there wouldn’t be life. The sheer power needed to create something from nothing would have been so destructive if it was done by power alone, that the life that it sought to create would been destroyed by its raw, untamed power.
But God, the creator of heaven and earth, is both omnipotent, all-wise and is infinite love. He upholds and sustains all things by His power, wisdom and love.
In order for there to be life, there must be a God of not only infinite power, but also infinite wisdom and infinite love!
